This is a Baba-Nyonya food post.
If you're a Malaysian you probably know about Baba-Nyonya
If you're not, well,
According to wikipedia, Baba-Nyonya are terms used for the descendants of late 15th and 16th-century Chinese immigrants to the Indonesian archipelago and British Malaya (now Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore)
So basically from what I've known all along Baba-Nyonya is usually used to describe the marriage between a Malay and a Chinese, they have a slightly different culture, more like a mix between the Chinese and Malay, they also came up with a Nyonya Cuisine, which is said to be a blend between the Chinese and Malay flavours.
Most of the Baba-Nyonya are from Malacca but now the numbers of them is getting lesser and lesser.
I fell in love with Nyonya food a few years back during a vacation to Malacca.
So one day when I was browsing through Nyonya restaurant in KL and I came across this restaurant and here I am!
This is how it looks like from the outside |
And this is how it looks like inside, all the authentic old Peranakan style is preserved
Walking into this restaurant is like walking into the old times
And it's food time!
Their rice is slightly blue-ish.. It's a natural blue colouring from a flower :)
Sambal prawn! It's not as spicy as it looks :)
This is my favourite kapitan curry chicken! :D
And here's the asam fish, sweet and sour! :D
This is the appetizer, the fried tofu with veggie in it :D
And here's the tofu dish with mushroom and eggs :)
Fried buttered squid! :D
Dessert time! :D
This is the honeydew sago! <3 *yum yum*
And this is the black sesame soup if I'm not mistaken
Both taste awesome! :D
If you really try some traditional Baba-Nyonya cuisine I strongly suggest you to drop by here :)
